Army: SovietPeriod: Early WarAs part of the Allied Lend-lease program to the Soviet Union a number of British Infantry Tanks Mark III (Valentine) were shipped to the Red Army. Over the war a total of 3782 Valentines of various marks were sent to the Soviet Union. The Valentine II first saw service with the Soviets during the battle for Moscow in late 1941. It saw service mainly on the central and southern fronts because of the proximity to the British supply routes through Persia (Iran). The SU034 model can be used to represent the Valentine VIII and IX models. The Valentine VIII can be field in the Light Tankovy Company of the Inomarochnikiy Tankovy Batalon in Hammer and Sickle (Fearless Trained) or in the Light Tankovy Company of the Tankovy Batalon in Fortress Europe (Confident Trained). Because of its small size and light armament the Mark III (Valentine II) was treated as a light tank and this trend continued into 1944 with the 6pdr armed variants. They are armed with the 6pdr and excellent weapon for anti-tank work, (Range: 24/60cm, ROF 2, AT 10, FP 4+) and unlike the 2pdr of the earlier models it does have a HE round for knocking out soft targets. The Valentine has better protection than any other Soviet light tank (Armour Front 6, Side 4, Top 1), but is let down by its slow speed (Slow tank 8/20cm cross-country). More...

Army: SovietPeriod: Mid War, Late WarThe diesel-powered M4A2 Sherman was sent to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease program. The Soviets received 4102 M4A2 Shermans, both with the 75mm (2007) and 76mm cannon (2095), but didn't receive any 76mm armed vehicles until after Operation Bagration. The M4 was nicknamed Emcha by Soviet troops. Emcha came from "Em" for M and "cha" because the English "4" looked like a Russian letter "cha".The Soviets preferred the diesel Shermans as their Soviet built tanks were also diesel-powered. Consequently, they were the second largest user (after Britain) of the diesel M4A2 Sherman with 75mm gun and the largest user of the M4A2 with 76mm gun. M4A2 accounted for nearly all Soviet Shermans. The M4 Emcha can be fielded in a Tankovy Company from Fortress Europe (Confident Trained) or as a Guards Inomarochnikiy Tankovy Company (Fearless Trained) from Hammer and Sickle. Army: SovietPeriod: Late WarIt is often said that it takes a brave man not to be a Hero in the Red Army, but there is no doubt that the Tankodesantniki are very brave indeed. These tough SMG armed infantry stick closely to their tanks ready to defend them against Fascist tank-hunting infantry. And this is despite the dangerous fire that the tanks inevitably attract. They were trained to give support their tanks by suppressing enemy anti-tank weapons or enemy infantry equipped with anti-tank grenades and rocket launchers. This close interaction between tanks ans infantry allowed the Soviet Army to achieve critical breakthroughs into the German defensive lines. Each tank brigade was allocated a Submachine-gun company which was divided amongst the tanks, providing the tank riders. The number of Tankodesantniki for each tank depended on the size of vehicle: Heavy tanks: 10-12 troops each,Medium tanks: 8-10 troops each, andLight tanks: 5-6 troops each. In Flames Of War With these new specialist miniatures its now much easier to represent your Tankodesantniki on the back of your tanks, they sit easily on the engine deck of most Soviet tanks. They can also be used to represent normal infantry hitching a ride on your tanks. These new Tankodesantiki will help support your tanks or guard your assault guns against enemy infantry. These troops are well armed with submachine-guns and sheer bravery. They will contribute greatly to your assaults, heroically taking hits so that your tanks can fight on and destroy the enemy! The Tankodesantniki special rules are found on page 181 of the Flames Of War rulebook. The blister includes*: 32x Tankodesantniki Tank Riders (enough for 10 tanks). * Blister does not include IS-2 or T-34 tanks. More...
